Ielts And English - Vocabulary Enhancement Exercise - Structure modification

In this edition we will discuss the ways to substitute the word in writing and speaking process. Using a variety of words and grammatical structure is always beneficial and advantageous for candidates, but the biggest hurdle is how to get used to this habit and how to avoid mistakes.
The first principle that can make a big difference in success and failure is the practice and proper implementation of strategy.

For example take a sentence:
Development has no parallel and this issue cannot be sidelined in name of preserving the traditions and culture of community. Leaders and prominent people world over have realized this and have consistently vouched for progress. Only the people who want the masses to follow their rhetoric that is full of selfish motives, lobby for prioritizing sustenance and traditions of culture over elements of development.

How can we put this sentence other way round?
Well it is simple and straightforward.
Progress is such an issue that cannot be abandoned for sake of living the way as prescribed by the forefathers. Leading personalities and reformers have always chosen and defended the need to develop a community. The people who prefer conservative thinking over progressive attitude are actually misled by self centered preachers.”

Just observe the change of grammar and structure of sentence. We can integrate similar changes in each sentence in our writing and speaking. This is greatly helpful in understanding reading passages also.

Ielts exam tips - Vocabulary Enhancement exercise - Ielts tips

Vocabulary Enhancement exercise

To enhance the practical vocabulary we need to grab the words from the primary sources. Dictionary can only help as a secondary and a reference source. We need to understand the usage and application of words. But without the contextual meaning it is very hard to get to terms of usage. Every word has a unique use in a sentence and the context it is being quoted. For e.g.

I am wondering what would happen if fossil fuel resources dry out, how would we run our cars.
In this case   wonder has been used as a verb and it means To be filled with curiosity or doubt.

She wondered at the creation of god i.e. how the new born child became a fully grown individual one day
Here also wonder has been used a verb but it means To have a feeling of awe or admiration; marvel

The development of new mobile technology is a 21st century wonder.
Here wonder is a noun and it means a miracle

The outstanding performance of winning team is a wonder for rival teams
Here also wonder is a noun and it means: One that arouses awe, astonishment, surprise, or admiration; a marvel

Wonder can also appear as wonderful i.e. adjective i.e. the promotion has been a wonderful  achievement for me this year
The logic is simple
Every word can have different meanings an without linking them to practical use dictionary cannot be of any help. Its as simple as possessing a gun but not knowing how to take an aim.
So it is important to read through a lot of practical sources to really get a grab of words and thus enhance vocabulary.
